The Nigerian Senate, on Thursday, December 20, confirmed the appointment of Honourable Justice Uwani Musa Abba Aji, JCA as the Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria after much deliberation.
The Senate president, Bukola Saraki, who spoke after the confirmation congratulated Abba-Aji on her nomination.
Saraki said: “On behalf of my colleagues, I congratulate the new Justice of the Supreme Court. I hope she will carry out this very important responsibility.
“It is our moral duty to ensure that this responsibility is in the interest of Justice and will continue to play an important role.
"Let me also commend our members; we received this communication from the president on December 6th and today, December 20th, we have treated this matter and showed our view on how important it is to ensure that the Judiciary is functional and efficient.
“I hope that the Judiciary and Executive will take a cue from this and improve on the time frame to ensure that we do not delay in replacing our Justices who are newly retired.”

The National Judicial Council (NJC) had on Tuesday, October 16, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore the calls against the nomination of Uwani Abba-Aji as a Supreme Court Justice over an allegation of Corruption.
The NJC said Abba-Aji, who was investigated for allegedly receiving money from a lawyer, has been cleared of the allegation and is currently not facing any charges.
