In some parts of Akwa Ibom, children are usually neglected and left to starve to death for allegedly being a witch. However, some of these children were rescued while some were not that lucky.
The Child’s Right Rehabilitation Network (CRARN), have taken to their Facebook profile to share pictures of some of the children whom they have rescued within one week in Akwa Ibom.
According to the organization, they disclosed that parents of these children were happy to say their children are witches and do not need them around. They were also called unwanted children.

Their Facebook post reads: “#AvoidableEpidemic Photos of children rescued this week after being abandoned by their families and ostracized from home even with their church dresses. Their parents even feel comfortable to say ‘they're unwanted children.’ Superstition, poverty and religious brigandage are the major combination that is fueling this avoidable epidemic.”
