- Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo have been dropped from the list of stars contending for this year's CAF player of the year award

- Alex Iwobi remains the only Super Eagles player in the race for the prestigious prize after his impressive performances for his club and country

- Mohamed Salah is the current holder of the award and he is among the ten stars vying for the award

Arsenal attacker Alex Iwobi has been shortlisted among the top ten African stars for 2018 CAF player of the year award.

The 22-year-old has been superb for the Gunners since the start of the season despite having a bad outing at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

However, he will battle the likes of Mohamed salah of Egypt, Senegal striker Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City for the prestigious prize.

Other stars to contend for the award include Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Denis Onyago, Andre Onana, Medhi Benatia among others.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles duo of Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa failed to make the top ten Africa's best for the outgoing year.

The votes were decided by the members of the Caf Media Committee, Caf Technical & Development Committee and half of the 20-member panel of experts.

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah is the current holder of the prize following the feat he achieved with the Reds in his debut season at the club.

He scored 44 goals and helped propel them to Champions League final last season but lost 3-1 to eventual champions Real Madrid in Kiev.

Legit.ng recalls that three Nigerian stars were shortlisted for this year's CAF African Player of the Year award set for Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday, January 8, 2019.

Arsenal star Alex Iwobi, Al Nassr's Ahmed Musa and Chinese based forward Odion Ighalo are the Super Eagles players who made the 34 man list.

The trio played a key role in securing the country's return to the African Cup of Nations tourney for the first time since 2013.
