I will never tell anybody not to vote Atiku on ground of corruption - APC chieftain

I will never tell anybody not to vote Atiku on ground of corruption - APC chieftain

- An APC chieftain, Alhaji Birma Dauda, has exonerated the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, from corrupt allegations

- Dauda said he has never seen Atiku done anything which he would call corrupt

- He, however, maintained that President Buhari will defeat Atiku in 2019

Former minister of education and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Birma Dauda has said that it is wrong for people to say the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is corrupt.

The former minister said he believed to label Atiku as being corrupt is wrong “because, I have never seen anything he has done, which I would call corrupt.”

Dauda said this in an interview with The Sun newspaper. Asked his view about the allegation that Atiku is carrying heavy baggage of corruption, Dauda said: “I have never in my life called Atiku corrupt. I haven’t seen anything he has done in the form of corruption. He belongs to a political party different from mine, I will never tell anybody not to vote Atiku on ground of corruption or anything other than that we belong to different political parties, therefore I will support my party, but if we were in the same party, I would have exercised a choice between him and whoever I’m supporting.

“I have never called Atiku corrupt and will not support anybody who calls Atiku corrupt because I have never seen anything he has done, which I would call corrupt.”

However, the APC chieftain said that the presidential candidate of the ruling party, President Muhammadu Buhari, will defeat Atiku in 2019.

Dauda said though Atiku is his younger brother, President Buhari is his friend and he will stick with the latter in 2019.

He said, in response to a question: “Yes, Buhari is my friend, while Atiku is my younger brother, but if my friend, whom I have worked with previously, is pitted against my younger brother for an election, I will stick with my friend.

“Both of them mean much to me, but sincerely speaking, I will stick with my friend because it will be unethical to drop my friend and stay with my younger brother, especially when I’m in APC, and Buhari is the APC flag bearer, while Atiku, my younger brother is in PDP, and I’m not in PDP, therefore, you will expect me to follow the party, which I belong and vote Buhari.”

Similarly, Atiku’s wife, Hajiya Titi Abubakar, has said that her husband is not a thief and would never steal if elected.

Mrs Abubakar made the remark when Atiku Women Prayer Group visited in her residence in Abuja. She said Atiku is rich and contented and was never in the race to steal money.

“He only joined the presidential race to give back to the society that had given him so much.

“Atiku Abubakar lost his father at a very tender age and was raised by his mother with lots of challenges as she had to sell her wrappers to see him through school and raise him to be what he is today.

“Because of the challenges he passes through in life as a youth and the challenges encounter by his mother when raising him he developed soft spot and likeness for women and youths.

“That is why he has promised 40% of his cabinet position for women and youth if he emerges as Nigeria’s president in 2019,” she said.
