England legend Gary Lineker has reacted to Pele's statement claiming that Lionel Messi 'only has one skill' by revealing other comparisons.

According to The Mirror report, the Argentine’s ability on the pitch has been a hot topic of discuss among football buffs in recent time, after the playmaker was named fifth in the 2018 Ballon d'Or.

Reacting on the issue, Brazil’s legend Pele queried the attributes of the Barcelona star, who many still believe is the greatest to have played the round leather game.

"How can you make a comparison between a guy who heads the ball well, shoots with the left, shoots with the right and another who only shoots with one leg, only has one skill and doesn't head the ball well?

"How can you compare? To compare with Pele, it has to be someone who shoots well with the left, shoots well with the right, and scores headers,” Pele was quoted as saying to olha de Sao Paulo while giving his submission if he thinks Messi is better than he was.

However, Lineker, who also had the privilege to play for Barcelona in his active days thinks otherwise, took to social media to set the records straight.

"If this is how you judge players then the same would apply to Maradona. Utter nonsense,” the former England striker tweeted via his official Twitter handle.

Interestingly, since Messi claimed his first La Liga title with Barcelona in 2005, he has gone on to win the Spanish league crown for an additional eight times.

In the UEFA Champions League, the 31-year-old enjoyed his first success in 2006, but has now added three more in the competitions regarded as club football’s greatest tournament.

Messi has already won the Ballon d'Or which is regarded as the most glamorous individual sport award on five different occasion.
