Breaking: APC, PDP suffer big loss as Imo Assembly speaker, 17 lawmakers defect to AA

Eighteen members of the Imo state House of Assembly have announced their defection from their political parties.

Channels TV reports that the speaker, Acho Ihim, and 17 other lawmakers dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). gathered that the lawmakers of both parties defected to the Action Alliance (AA).

Uche Nwosu, son-in-law to Rochas Okorocha, the Imo state governor, who had been tipped by Okorocha to secure the APC governorship ticket, had also dumped the APC after issues that led to his losing the ticket.

It was gathered that on Tuesday, December 4, he had also announced his intention to run for governor of the state on the platform of the Action Alliance (AA), stating that “injustice, impunity, and lack of respect for party’s constitution” forced him out of APC.

The lawmakers' defection was announced on Thursday, December 6, by the speaker, during an emergency sitting at the state House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, had previously reported that Uche Nwosu, chief of staff and son-in-law to Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, on Tuesday, November 13, said that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Senator Hope Uzodinma, would not be the next governor of the state.

Nwosu who spoke to his supporters shortly after his arrival from Abuja, said that, Uzodinma is a tenant in the APC. ( -> We have updated to serve you better.
