Denis Suarez netted a brace as Barcelona cruised into the last 16 of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday, December 5, after a convincing 4-1 win over Cultural Leoneaa at the Camp Nou.
The encounter saw Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde carry out a squad rotation that handed youngsters like Chumi, Juan Miranda, Oriol Busquets and Carles Alena a spot in his starting XI.
Barcelona’s first goal of the night arrived after 18 minutes of action as Munir finished off a brilliant interchange into the top corner of Cultural Leonesa goal.
Moments later Munir came very close to net the second from a Malcom through pass but his effort was only good enough to find the woodwork.
However, of the 26th minute of play Denis Suarez scored Barcelona’s second of the game and his first on the night, after gaining possession in the vital area before smashing home from close range.
And with few minutes to the break, the Catalan giants increased their advantage after Malcom rose high to nod home an Ivan Rakitic’s cross to see Barcelona go into the break on total control of the proceeding.

In the second stanza, Valverde made two quick changes with Sergio Busquets coming in for Rakitic, while Riqui Puig took the place of Oriol Busquets.
But that move did not make things easier for Barcelona as Cultural Leonesa’s Josep Señé reduced the scores from close range effort.
However, Denis Suarez netted his second goal of the night to restore Barcelona’s lead, after Puig’s excellent play to put the match beyond the visitors with scores at 4-1.
The match mood was altered in the closing moments of the game after Malcom suffered what looked like a serious injury as he was caught on camera in tears before the blast of the final whistle.
Barcelona thus progress to the last 16 round of the Copa del Rey with an aggregate score of 5-1.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that coach Ernesto Valverde's Barcelona returned to winning ways for the first time since November 11 following their 2-0 victory over Villareal at the Camp Nou.
Spanish defender Gerard Pique opened scoring for the Catalans in the 35th minute after heading home an Ousmane Dembele's cross from the right flank.
Carles Alena however sealed the victory for the Catalans after chipping the ball above goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo in the 87th minute following a precise pass from Lionel Messi.
