Pat Utomi faults INEC governorship list for Delta APC

- Pat Utomi, a chieftain of the APC, describes INEC list which has Great Ogboru as the party’s governorship candidate for Delta state as a brazen breach of the rule of law

- Utomi says the APC list is an indication that the party is not ready to challenge for the governorship seat in the Delta state

- The APC chieftain states that the primaries which produced Ogboru as the party’s governorship candidate lacked credibility and does not represent Delta APC

Pat Utomi has rejected the list of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Delta state which was published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The chieftain of the APC faulted the list which has Great Ogboru as the party’s candidate as a brazen breach of the rule of law, The Sun reports.

He said the list was an indication that the party was not ready to challenge for the governorship seat in Delta state.

“In view of brazen breaches of rule of law, the US Ambassador, recently, expressed his concerns and noted that undermining the rule of law was worst offence than corruption,” Utomi said.

“The governorship primary held in Asaba by the Jones Erue faction, which produced Ogboru as candidate, was a complete farce. It was treasonable felony and should be prosecuted, otherwise, it becomes a precedent for contempt of the rule of law.

“Considering the security and international implications, I decided to seek redress in court. The exercise and its aftermath showed that the Ogboru/Omo-Agege faction, which the Erue State Working Committee (SWC) stands for, is unpopular, not credible, without integrity and not a true representation of Delta APC.

“The faction that represents the broader group of APC members is the Cyril Ogodo-led SWC, which was constitutionally elected through a credible congress and formally inaugurated by the former APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun. In deference to the party’s national leadership, we had followed its directive on the adoption of the consent judgment before an Asaba court rejected it.”

The APC chieftain said he had offers from other political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He, however, stated that he wanted to see the end of the whole APC process and urged his supporters to keep hope alive.

Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Tambuwal's name is reportedly missing as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the names of aspirants for the 2019 elections in Sokoto state.

The Sokoto state governor who defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contested and lost the presidential primary of the PDP. Former vice president Atiku Abubakar beat him to the ticket.

The list showed that Manir Dan’iya is listed as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Manir Dan’iya was the immediate past commissioner for local government and community development.
