English Premier League – Jose Mourinho’s 5 worst players signed

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is definitely one of the best managers in today's football world owing to his records in the past years. The Portuguese born tactician has made his mark in all the leagues he has featured - winning the title for his clubs except for the Red Devils.

He joined the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2016 and one season after landed the Europa League and the EFL Cups for them.

However, the former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss is yet to win the Premier League title for his present club - the only club he is yet to win the league for.

Meanwhile, with all his records in top five European Leagues, Mourinho also made some blunders in his signing and below are five of his funny signings.

1. Radamel Falcao - To be fair to Mourinho, Falcao struggled at Manchester United prior to his loan move to Chelsea in 2015.

However, some would say the error in judgement could have been avoided based on the Colombian’s lack of form in Manchester.

Mourinho confidently took on the challenge even saying that he has taken it upon himself to resurrect Falcao’s career based on his outrageous talent.

One goal and just 12 appearances tells the story of this epic fail.

2. Nuri Sahin - Sahin was a product of Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund in its prime.

More of a conductor than a midfield enforcer, he was signed by Mourinho for Real Madrid at a bargain price of £9 million.

However, his style of play just never clicked with the Galacticos and he could only make 10 appearances. He was then loaned out to Liverpool the following season.

3. Fabio Coentrao - Coentrao makes the list not due to poor performances but more for not living up to his price tag.

The £21.60 million Real forked out was a hefty amount for a left-back at the time.

He eventually played second fiddle to the Brazilian stalwart, Marcelo, and was eventually loaned out as well.

4. Ricardo Quaresma - The Portuguese attacker was another who failed to live up to the hype. Mourinho signed him for Inter Milan for a meaty £22.14 million in 2008.

The enigmatic wide-man hardly delivered and struggled with consistency. As his confidence waned, he seemingly lost his ability to finish opportunities.

Mourinho criticised him for his lack of defensive discipline as well. He was eventually sold to Besiktas 3 years later.

5. Andriy Shevchenko - Arguably, Mourinho’s first bad signing in English football. Shevchenko came to Chelsea full of promise but just never fired at Stamford Bridge.

Bought from Milan for £39 million, expectations were high but they weren’t met. After scoring on his debut against Liverpool, a goal drought soon followed and he was labelled a flop.

He only had a goal return of 22 goals across 77 matches. A truly mediocre return for the Ukrainian who was once one of the world’s most feared strikers.
