Gunmen abduct ex-NBA chairman, kill wife and demand N50m for his release

- A former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, A Itemoagbor, has been abducted

- The abductors reportedly shot at the victim, who was on his way from Benin to Auchi, thus killing his wife

- The spokesperson of the police command in Edo state could not respond to inquiries, but the NBA chairman in Benin confirmed the incident

There was tragedy in Benin, the capital of Edo state on Sunday, November 4, when gunmen abducted a former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Auchi branch, A Itemoagbor and killed his wife.

Itemoagbor, learnt, was said to be on his way from Benin to Auchi, his base after attending the convention of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was abducted at Ehor in the Uhunmwonde local government area of Edo state.

The Punch reports that the abductors shot at him and killed his wife in the process. After that, he was taken away to a yet-to-be-identified location.

The abductors are reportedly demanding the sum of N50 million for his release.

The report said the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Edo state, Chidi Nwabuzor, could not be reached for comments on the incident.

It was learnt that the chairman of the Benin branch of the NBA, Prince Collins Ogieva, confirmed the incident saying: “Itemuagbor was kidnapped at Ehor and his wife killed. It is unfortunate.”
