Popular Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has been awarded the Best African Act award at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards. The award show took was held on Sunday, November 4, at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre in Spain.

The mother of one became the first female African artiste to win the award for the Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

38-year-old Tiwa Savage was up against talented African artistes like Davido, Shekinahm Fally Ipupa, Nyashinski and Distraction Boyz.

In her excitement, the singer took to her Instagram page to share her gratitude on receiving the award. She thanked God and all her fans for always being with her all through the way since she began her music career.

She wrote: “Almighty God, you ARE so faithful. My savage soldiers you did this for us. You’ve stuck with me through the roller coasters, THANK YOU

To my amazing team, this is just the beginning. African Woman, this is for US, I’ve been through a lot but I’ve kept my head up and weathered the storm because I know some little girl somewhere is dreaming like I did. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”

Meanwhile, her record label boss Don Jazzy also took to Instagram to congratulate her on the big win.

He wrote: "@Tiwasavage You did it by GOD’s grace. You work the hardest. Your fans are as beautiful as you are. You deserve every accolade you get and more. Congratulations on your MTVEMA WIN. #Mavin #SavageSoldiers."
