23-year-old beautiful undergraduate beats 15 ladies to win 2018 Miss Olokun crown

It was an array of beautiful ladies at their best trying to outdo one another for the revered Miss Olokun beauty competition on Sunday, October 21, at the Quadosh Event Centre in Lagos.

Beautiful undergraduate of the College of Technology, Ijebu Ode, Ogun state, Adedairo Adebanke has emerged as the 2018 Miss Olokun after a keenly contested beauty pageant.

Adebanke represented Ondo state at the contest and she is a combination of beauty and brain combined with a cheerful mien.

Sixteen pretty ladies vied to wear the coveted crown with each of them coming out in casual, traditional and evening wears to impress the judges. A test on the reason behind the pageantry and the organisers was also conducted on the contestants while examining the intelligence of each of them. The were also treated to various questions on the Yoruba tradition.

The panel of judges comprised five among them Legit.ng copy editor Sola Bodunrin, banker Adenike Fawehinmi-Apata, media personality Lukman Akintola and two others.

Aside the arrays of beautiful ladies that displayed their beauty, one of the highlights of the night was the wonderful performance of child-comedian Small Mummy. Her stagecraft was unrivaled despite being a young girl of six years of age.

The Miss Olokun beauty pageant started in 2003 and it is being put together by the Aare Ona Kankanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, under one of his foundations, Olokun Festival Foundation. Adams has single-handedly being the sole sponsor of the event so far. He used the opportunity of the event to promote the Yoruba culture.

Olokun, according to Yoruba folklore is a river goddess. She is said to be a very beautiful woman who was also wealthy. She is also said to bless her worshippers with riches too.

Aside the Miss Olokun beauty pageant, the Aare Ona kankanfo is also promoting the Yoruba culture through other pageantry. He annually sponsors Miss Oya, Miss Okota, Miss Oodua, Miss Olumo.
