Barcelona set to sign Liverpool star Dejan Lovren after Umtiti and Vermaelen's injury

- Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is wanted in Spain by Barcelona

- They are hoping to feel the void left by Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen after being ruled out for injury

Spanish League champions Barcelona are reportedly planning to sign Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren.

The Blaugrana are currently faced with injury crisis in the defence as Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen have been sidelined from action.

Russia 2018 World Cup winning defender Umtiti has not featured for the La Liga side since September 26 after picking a knee injury after his side's 2-1 defeat to Leganes.

Vermaelen on the other hand will has also been ruled out for six weeks after been forced out of Belgium's 2-1 win over Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League.

The Sun however reports that coach Ernesto Valverde will be hoping to land the Croatian to fill the gap left by the duo.

Barca are hoping they sign additional defender to add depth to their defence on the bench as both Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet are the central pairing left in the team.

The Spanish side are hoping they can lure the 29-year-old to Spain following his limited playing time at the club.

He joined the Reds in a deal around £22.5 million in 2014 and has started just one Premier League match this season.

He played a key role in his side's World Cup feat in Russia earlier this summer and even labelled himself as "one of the best defenders in the world."
