2019: Yoruba group commends Obasanjo for forgiving Atiku

- A pan-Yoruba group has commended Olusegun Obasanjo for forgiving the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar

- The group, Yoruba Youth Forum, says it believes Atiku will perform better than the incumbent president

- Before now, Atiku and Obasanjo had a frosty relationship, with the former president vowing never to forgive the ex-VP

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has been commended by a pan-Yoruba group, Yoruba Youth Forum (YYF), for forgiving ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar in the interest of Nigeria, saying it believes Atiku will perform better than President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group said this in a statement by its chairman, Olusegun Abiodun Bolarinwa, in which he said Obasanjo's decision had portrayed him as a genuine leader, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Bolarinwa called on all sons and daughters of Yoruba to rally round and support Atiku ahead of the 2019 general elections.

He said: “We want to specifically thank former president Olusegun Obasanjo for finally accepting the apology of his former vice in the interest of Nigerians. Many Nigerian voted for APC because they thought the party will be able to improve their lives but today the party has made a mess of every sector of our national life.

"The economy today is in total mess. During the electioneering period President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, APC made promises which many of us believed.

“Some of us believed in those promises not because we were fools but because those promises came from Buhari, a man we once vouched for his integrity. But, today Mr President none of those promises has been fulfilled. Nigeria has fared badly under President Buhari.

“We believe that Atiku Abubakar will perform better than Buhari having served in Obasanjo’s government. We are appealing to all sons and daughters of Yoruba to rally round and support Atiku Abubakar as our next president come 2019."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the endorsement of former vice president Atiku Abubakar for 2019 presidency by former president Olusegun Obasanjo received the support of a former minister of police affairs, Major General David Jemibewon (retd), and a former director of military intelligence, Brigadier-General Ajibola Togun (retd).

Recall that Obasanjo on Thursday, October 11, declared his support for Atiku, four days after the ex-VP emerged as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In reaction to the development, Jemibewon, who served as military governor of the defunct Western Nigeria, said Obasanjo was eminently qualified to assess the political situations in Nigeria.
