At least one person was feared killed when supporters of the two largest parties in Nigeria, APC and PDP, clashed in Sokoto on Saturday, October 13.
Daily Trust reports that a 22-year old boy identified as Imrana Ahmad Alkanchi was said to have been hit by a stray bullet fired at the scene of the clash.
Alkanchi's cousin, an Information officer of the Sokoto state university, Zayyanu Shehu confirmed his death.
The young man was waiting to board a commercial motorcycle Okada on his return from Gawon Nama market when the bullet hit him.
According to the report, some alleged political thugs loyal to the APC, had attempted to block Governor Aminu Tambuwal’ s convoy from passing through Gawon Nama area, but clashed with his supporters.
Gawon Nama is where the house of APC leader and former governor of the state AlIyu Magatakarda Wamakko is located.
Tambuwal was received by hordes of supporters who thronged Sultan Abubakar III International Airport as early as 10am to welcome him as he returned to Sokoto for the first time since he losing at the PDP national convention.
Sokoto state police Command spokesman DSP Cordelia Nwewe said the matter is under investigation.
Legit.ng reported recently that Tambuwal said before the convention that he dropped his second term as a governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to his commitment to the unity and development of Nigeria.
Tambuwal said this in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, during his campaign to the southwest geopolitical zone where he vowed to provide purposeful and visionary leadership that will foster unity in the nation.
