The Nigerian Army said that six soldiers sustained injury while repelling Boko Haram insurgents in an ambush at Arege area of Borno on Friday, October 12.
Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, Army director, public relations, announced this in a statement he issued in Maiduguri on Saturday, October 13.
He said that scores of the insurgents were neutralised while others escaped with various degrees of injury during the encounter.
Chukwu said that one vehicle was recovered from the terrorists, while three gun trucks were destroyed by the troops of Sector 3, deployed in operation Lafiya Dole.
“Unfortunately, six soldiers sustained various degrees of injury and are currently receiving medical attention at the military facility.
“The public is once again reminded to report any suspicious movements or activities in their areas to the law enforcement agents for prompt action," he announced
Legit.ng had reported earlier reported that the Nigerian Army at about 11am on Sunday, September 16, killed some Boko Haram terrorists, who ambushed troops of of 21 Brigade along the Maiduguri-Bama axis of Borno state.
The troops led by a Brigade Commander were on a clearance patrol in support of Operation Rainbow, when they were ambushed by the terrorists.
This was disclosed in a series of tweets from the Twitter handle of the Army, @HQNigerianArmy, adding that there was “serious exchange of gunfire.” Guns and several rounds of ammunition belonging to the terrorists were recovered, and troops are still in search of terrorists who escaped with gunshot wounds.
In another report, troops of 26 Task Force Brigade deployed in Sector One of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, have successfully neutralised seven Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) and rescued 73 persons in two separate clearance operations in Sirdawala and Valley of Gwoza local government area of Borno state.
