2019: Atiku's candidature is not a threat to Buhari - APC stalwart

- A chieftain of the ruling APC in Delta state says Atiku Abubakar's candidature for the 2019 presidential election is not a threat to President Muhammadu Buhari

- The chieftain, Chidi Nwabuofu, says Buhari is not threatened as the Peoples Democratic Party elected Atiku as its candidate

- He, however, urged APC leadership to compensate those who lost at the APC primaries across the nation

As the 2019 general elections draw nearer, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta state, Chidi Nwabuofu, has said the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not a threat to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Vanguard reports that Nwabuofu stated that Atiku's emergence as PDP's presidential flag-bearer is not a threat to the president's second term bid.

Legit.ng gathers that the stalwart in a statement called on the national chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to bring all aggrieved members of the party to a negotiation table.

He said this was necessary as it would “forestall the negative consequences arising from the just concluded primaries, before the 2019 general elections.”

According to Nwabuofu, Atiku cannot contend with “the overwhelming support that Nigerians have pledged for our President, Muhammad Buhari. Perhaps when the scales fall off the eyes of our detractors, they will realize the futility of their struggles."

Nwabuofu's statement further read: “The divisive reflexes that struck our great party, APC before and in the aftermath of the recent primaries is a development that must be arrested in good time. As a progressive party we need to set standards for other political parties to emulate in our attempt to write off the bad legacies of PDP.

“This is so for Nigerians to consider the APC as its viable choice. That of course will be negated if the different tendencies are allowed to fester. We need to eschew personal interests, greed, and unite in the party because service in itself is sacrificial and not a do or die affair.

“However, in doing this I strongly recommend that those who purchased the party’s expensive forms and were not successful in the primaries across the nation should be compensated. “This I believe, might help mitigate the grievances that the process entrenched. I’m confident in the capacity of our national chairman to be able to weather the storms from across the states.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Itse Sagay, said that the presidential flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lacks records to run for the 2019 election.

Sagay, who said Sagay Atiku's promises to Nigerians ahead of the 2019 elections were all empty, added that there was no basis for comparison between Atiku and President Muhammadu Buhari.
