- PPC governorship candidate in Osun 2018 guber election has criticised APC national chairman over “election rigging” comment
- The guber candidate also said that PDP candidate should be declared winner of the poll
- He also urged Nigerians to reject corrupt politicians distributing money to induce the electorate
The governorship candidate of the Providence People’s Congress in Osun state, Professor Ife Adewumi, has decried the “election rigging” comment credited to the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.
Adewumi, who is a former chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife said this at a press conference in Osogbo on Tuesday, October 9, The Punch reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the former ASUU boss said the rerun election in the state was not credible and it was a needless exercise, saying Independent National Electoral Commission ought to have declared Senator Ademola Adeleke, the winner of the election at the first ballot because he satisfied the requirements of the law and polled the highest number of lawful votes cast.

Adewumi said: “Adams Oshiomhole recently said whoever could not stomach rigging should not come out to contest elective positions, he later said it was a mistake. But what he said was not a mistake; he spoke out of the abundance of his mind. Because the Bible says, a man or a woman speaks out of the abundance of their hearts.”
The candidate who came sixth in the governorship election with 922 votes stated that the PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke, ought to have been declared the winner at the first ballot and returned elected by INEC.
He said: “I was the first candidate to say that that Senator Ademola Adeleke, who scored the highest number of votes in the first ballot should be declared the winner of the poll. We witnessed that rerun was not free, not fair and nobody can say it was credible. There were intimidation and shooting and then, there was heavy shooting, no one would dare go out without having a bulletproof vest.
“We know that 30 other parties have joined me to say that Adeleke should be declared the winner. If at the end of the day, the position of the INEC is sustained, we don’t have a problem working with whoever is there.
“The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Olusegun Agbaje, has said he is ready to resign if the INEC is found guilty of any fault.”
Adewumi also urged Nigerians to reject corrupt politicians distributing money to induce the electorate, He said: “We should de-emphasise religion and ethnicity which have been dividing us as a nation. If we de-emphasise money politics, our nation will develop. That is why I appreciate those who voted for us because we didn’t give them money.”
