Breaking: Dogara swears in new Rep member

- Speaker Yakubu Dogara has sworn in Haruna Isah as a new member of the House of Representatives

- Isah was declared the winner of recent bye-election for the Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency

- He polled 26,860 votes to defeat Bashir Abubakar of the PDP who polled 14, 845 votes

Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the House of Representatives, has just sworn in a new member, Haruna Isah, who was recently elected in a bye-election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

Isah is representing Lokoja/Koton-Karfe federal constituency of Kogi state on Wednesday, October 10, administered his oath of office, Premium Times reports. gathered that Isah filled the vacancy created by the death of the former occupant of the seat, Umar Jibrin, on March 30.

The late Jibrin was until his death, the deputy house leader. Like the new lawmaker, the deceased was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, had reported that the candidate of the ruling APC, Haruna Isha, was declared the winner of Saturday, August 11’s bye-election for the Lokoja/Kogi Federal constituency.

INEC's returning officer Rotimi Ajayi of the Federal University Lokoja announced the outcome of the exercise in the early hours of Sunday, August 12 at the local government INEC Headquarter in Lokoja.

According to reports, Isah was declared winner, “haven satisfied the requirements of the Electoral Act” after polling APC 26,860 votes to closest rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP's) 14,845.

In a related development, the bye-election to fill the vacant seat in the Lokoja-Kogi federal constituency started on a peaceful note but was later marred by violence, vote buying and intimidation in Lokoja.

Reports had it that the election was marred with cases of political thugs going from one polling unit to another to perpetrate fraud.

Although policemen and other security agents were seen at the police stations, they looked the other way, while thugs terrorised people.
