Saleh was formerly in support of Senator Shehu Sani, who currently represents Kaduna central senatorial district at the National Assembly.
He however stated that he had to toe the lines of his party in the state and support Mallam Nasir who is El-Rufai’s candidate.
He said being a loyal party member, he couldn’t have contradicted the decision of the party since the leadership and stakeholders of the APC had directed that states could adopt an indirect or direct mode of primary election.
Meanwhile, Senator Shehu Sani has praised President Muhammadu Buhari for dissociating himself from a purported letter in circulation, which alleged that the president had authorised a governor to deal with traitors and disloyal members of APC, especially Shehu Sani.
Sani in a tweet on Sunday, October 7, applauded the president for clearing the air over the issue, adding that he never believed that Buhari would have given such directions.
He also said the president’s denial had exposed an executive lie from a state governor.
