Former Manchester United assistant manager Rui Faria leads the chase to land Aston Villa managerial job.

The 43-year-old becomes the new favourite to be named the Clarets new boss after Thierry Henry recently turned down the job.

According to the Mirror, former Chelsea and Aston Villa defender John Terry is expected to be appointed the assistant manager.

The publication reveals that Faria's agent Jorge Mendes has been advising Villa's new owners after they axed Steve Bruce.

Henry was almost taking the job before being approached by French League side Monaco.

Afetr Henry decided to ditched their offers, Villa's owners now look set to go for a Faria/Terry double-act as the pair know each other from Chelsea .

Faria was Jose Mourinho's long-term assistant before parting company with his Portuguese compatriot earlier this year. previously reported that Jose Mourinho said his assistant Rui Faria would be a good fit for the vacant Arsenal manager's job.

The Manchester United manager said he would help his friend pack and carry the bags whenever such an opportunity arose.
