- About 3,000 women have benefitted from a government programme in Katsina
- The women would be receiving N30 million from the state government
- The disbursement of the money, the Katsina state government said, is part of its project to alleviate poverty in the state
Katsina state government on Tuesday, October 9, commenced the disbursement of N30 million to 3,000 women in the state as part of efforts to boost local businesses.
“The disbursement is part of efforts to alleviate poverty among women across the three senatorial zones of Katsina state, reduce unemployment and idleness,” the government said.
Badiyya Mashi, commissioner for women affairs and social development, said while distributing the money in Katsina that it would enable the women expand their businesses and contribute to the overall growth of the national economy.
“Each woman would receive N10,000 as start-up capital to enhance her business. Our ideal is to empower them economically to enable them kick start their petty businesses or build on what they have started," she said.
Mashi recalled that the government had other programmes to improve the welfare of the people and would be glad to see the beneficiaries transform into change agents for the economic prosperity of the state.
According to her, economic growth can be achieved if all women were empowered to support their families and the education of their children.
Mashi urged the beneficiaries to rally support for President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Aminu Masari during the 2019 general elections, to consolidate on the tremendous works they started.
One of the beneficiaries, Hajiya Zainab Ahamed, pledged to utilise the money to boost her business.
