Former Man United boss Alex Ferguson quits alcohol to regain full fitness

- Sir Alex Ferguson is yet to make full recovery from the brain injury he suffered in May

- He has however stopped taking his favourite red wine to ensure he returns to full fitness

- The 76-year-old made first appearance at Old Trafford after undergoing surgery in September

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly stopped alcohol intake on his way back to full recovery.

The former Red Devils tactician had an emergency surgery in May after suffering brain hemorrhage.

He has since then continued his recovery process after leaving the hospital in his Cheshire home.

As part of his recovery process, the 76-year-old was said to have visited the South of France for a holiday recently and has given up drinking alcohol, according to The Sun.

"He drank water every time he visited us, not a drop of wine touched his lips,' a staff member at Villefranche-sur-Mer's La Mare Germaine restaurant said.

"Sir Alex loves his wines but he's stopped drinking for the time being — that's not so good for us, but his health has to come first.

"We'll all raise a glass to him when he feels he's ready to go back on the red."

The former Red Devils manager staged a return to Old Trafford for the first time since his surgery last month.

Ferguson during his 26-year reign at Manchester United won 13 Premier League titles with five FA Cups.

His wealth of experience at the club also saw him win two Champions League and four EFL titles among others.

Legit.ng previously reported that former Manchester United manager Alex Fergusson made his his first appearance at Old Trafford since he underwent emergency brain surgery in May.

The Red Devils battle newly promoted side Wolverhampton Wanderers in one of the 3pm kickoff fixtures this afternoon.

He won 13 Premier League titles during his 27-year reign at the club and he will be rooting for the most successful EPL side in their fixture this afternoon.
