Toyin Ibitoye, media officer of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, has revealed four players of Nigerian descent who are favourably disposed to the country as the West African nation get ready to face the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
Speaking exclusively to Legit.ng in an interview, Ibitoye said players of dual nationality are beginning to show interest in playing for the Super Eagles because things are being done the right way in the country.
Reacting to a question on if talks are on-going to get Liverpool loanee Sheyi Ojo, who recently admitted that he will never turn down any chance to play for Nigeria, Ibitoye said: "I believe Sheyi Ojo's interest to play for Nigeria is a reflection that some things are being done the right way that is why players of dual nationality are beginning to show interest in playing for the Super Eagles.
"We will keep our team competitive and attractive the way it is. The coaches are scouting and looking round for those available. At the right time, the right steps will be taken and we will be able to get these players to come to the team. But not just Sheyi Ojo, a lot of other players are showing interest in playing for the Super Eagles."
When asked by our correspondent to mention names of those players who are interested in playing for the Super Eagles, Ibitoye said: "Sheyi Ojo is one of them, Arnaut Danjuma who plays in Belgium is another one, Everton youngster Ademola Lookman is another youngster who can get a call up. He played for England at the U-20 World Cup. Also, Ovie Ejaria is another star.
"These players are favourably disposed to playing for Nigeria. So at the right time, steps will be taken to see who can come on board and who will have to wait a little longer."
Sheyi Ojo joined Premier League club Liverpool when he was 14 and the winger is currently on loan at Reims in France while Ejaria recently joined Rangers on loan from Liverpool.
Lookman plays for Everton while Arnaut Danjuma who was born in Nigeria, plays for Club Brugge.
He scored a stunning strike in his side 3-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid last week in the Champions League.
