The fate and direction of Lagos should be determined by all - Agbaje

- The Lagos PDP governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje, has said that a few people with vested interests should not determine who governs the state

- Agbaje in a statement promised he will present a number of proposals which make up his vision and plans for Lagos state in the months ahead

- The gubernatorial candidate noted that if elected he would use his office to make sure the government of Lagos works for the people of the state

Jimi Agbaje, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state, governorship candidate has said the state is important to Nigeria’s development that an individual would continue to determine who governs it, The Punch reports.

Legit.ng gathered that Agbaje in a statement also promised to empower the local government system to deliver service for the people of the state.

The Lagos gubernatorial candidate said that rather than a few people with vested interests determining who governed the state, the onus lies on the people to elect their leaders.

The statement reads: “As Governor, what I will do is use that exalted Office to make sure the Government of Lagos State works for the people of Lagos State, minimizing waste and focusing on areas critical to the welfare of all Lagosians.

“On any occasion I will welcome your questions and do my best to answer them, so you will have no doubt of where I stand on issues important to you.

“My government will be a government of minimal interference, influence, so as to enable the free market flourish and run based on the forces of demand and supply.

“I will empower all arms of the government from the local governments up. The local government is crucial and must be the first point of call for Lagosians. We will promote a Lagos State accountable to its people.

“One man should and must not determine the person occupying Alausa. The fate and direction of everyone living in Lagos should be determined by all who live in this great state. Thus we must have a Lagos that recognises what it needs and a Lagos that encourages qualifications in those areas, driven right through the educational system.”

Legit.ng previously reported that Jimi Agbaje emerged as the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election conducted in Lagos state on Friday, October 5.

Agbaje defeated his opponent, Deji Doherty, with a 1,100 votes to 742. The primary election which lasted for two days was supervised by an electoral panel chaired by Victor Kassim Oyofo.
