Dr Obadiah Mailafia has been elected as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria emerged as the party’s candidate at the presidential primary election of the party for the 2019 presidential election.
He polled 860 votes to defeat his only challenger, Princess Saidat Odoffin who polled 310 votes.
Announcing the result, Alhaji Saidi Baba Abdullahi, national secretary of the party, said there was no winner or loser. He urged party members to work to ensure that the party win in 2019 general elections.
Dr Mailafia, in his acceptance speech said the focus of his administration is to tackle the "menace of insecurity; electricity for all; building world-class infrastructures; defeating poverty and providing jobs; youth empowerment; women and gender equity; nation-building and restructuring; education, technology, and skills; as well as health for all and laying the foundations for a new Nigeria", Nigerian Tribune reports.
Legit.ng had also reported that the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) picked Pastor Habu Aminchi as its candidate for the 2019 presidential election.

The party at its 2018 elective convention which ended in Abuja, Sunday night, October 7, affirmed Aminchi’s candidature through a unanimous voice vote of delegates from the 36 states of the country and the FCT.
Chairman of PDM Chief Francis Igwebuike said the National Executive Council (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party would continue to uphold the ingenuity of its founding father, late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua.
Igwebuike noted that it was the first time PDM as a party was presenting a presidential candidate and that it would mobilise to dislodge the President Muhammadu Buhari’s All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2019 general election.
