- The state's chairman of the party, Alhaji Kola Shittu, said that Saraki would be officially presented as the party’s senatorial candidate for Kwara central after the arrival of delegates who went for the presidential primary
Alhaji Kola Shittu, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara on Sunday, October 7, said it was possible for Senate President Bukola Saraki to emerge the state's central senatorial candidate of the party.
Saraki had contested the PDP presidential ticket and came third with 317 votes in the primary that took place in Port Harcourt, River state capital on Saturday, October 6.
Punch reported that although a candidate for the district, whose name was not revealed, had emerged through consensus, arrangements could still be made for Saraki to become the PDP's flag bearer and his name submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the deadline for submission of candidates' name which is on Monday, October 8.
It was gathered that after the arrival of the delegates who attended the party's national convention, Saraki would be officially presented as the party’s senatorial candidate for Kwara central.
Speaking with newsmen recently, Shittu also confirmed that there was a procedure for Saraki to emerge as the candidate if he so chooses.
Shittu stated: “If he (Saraki) so wishes, there are procedures of doing that. We have affirmed somebody through consensus. Since tomorrow is the last date for the submission of candidates, there is the possibility of him emerging this night (Sunday). It is still possible.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Senate majority leader, Ahmed Lawan, had assured the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the senators of the party will do everything within their powers to ensure the impeachment of Saraki.
Lawan said when the National Assembly is reopened for session, he and others in APC would ensure that Saraki is replaced and the INEC budget along with that of security agencies would be passed.
