Kano police to prosecute 16 suspected political thugs

- The police in Kano state will be prosecuting 16 suspected political thugs in the state

- The Kano state police command says it arrested 34 suspected political thugs in the state between October 2 and October 5, 2018

- The police say 18 of the suspects have been released after they were screened

No fewer than 34 suspected political thugs have been arrested by the Kano state police command, out of which 16 will be prosecuted.

The command stated that the suspects were arrested between October 2 and October 5, 2018, adding that 18 of them were released after being screened, while 16 others were indicted after a thorough investigation, Punch reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the command, which stated that the 16 suspects would be prosecuted, made the disclosure on Sunday, October 7. According to the command, among those arrested was one Bashir Gachi, an alleged wanted armed robber, who had earlier fled the state.

SP Magaji Majia, the spokesman for the command, said items recovered from the suspects included 50 sticks, 20 cutlasses, 16 swords and nine knives.

He said: “About 40 suspected political thugs identified through close circuit television cameras at various locations, will also be pursued and arrested in due course.

“More arrests are being made by the police at various criminal hideouts and black spots as directed by the state commissioner of police, Rabiu Yusuf."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that an administrator and members of a WhatsApp group were arrested by the Kano state police command for allegedly circulating fake news and an image of a married woman whom they claimed was trafficking in children in the city.

The spokesman for the command, Magaji Musa Maaji, said the suspects were arrested and paraded after the victim of the circulated image lodged a formal complaint to the police command.

Maaji said the fake reports about the victim was spread with the intent to incite the public against her.
