Okorocha wins Senate ticket as son-in-law emerges Imo APC governorship candidate

- Governor Rochas Okorocha has emerged as the APC candidate for the Imo West senatorial district

- Okorocha's son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, emerged as the party's governorship candidate in Imo

- Other governorship aspirants have dragged the party to court to stop the primaries to produce Nwosu as candidate

Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Imo West senatorial district, while his former chief of staff, Uche Nwosu, won the party's governorship primary.

Nwosu, who is the son-in-law of Governor Okorocha, polled 269,524 votes to emerge winner, while Chuks Ololo and Peter Gbujie followed with 6,428 and 4,855 respectively.

The chairman of the electoral panel, Ibrahim Agbabiaka, who announced Nwosu's victory, gave the names of those who participated in the governorship primaries as Chuks Ololo, George Eche, Uche Nwosu, Deputy Governor Eze Madumere, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Air Commodore Peter Gbujie(rtd), Chima Anozie, Jude Ejiogu and Chris Nlemoha.

However, this is contrary to claims by Senator Uzodimma and Deputy Governor Madumere, who both claimed they were not part of the election process. Vanguard reports that some governorship aspirants under a coalition known as the Imo Allied Forces, with Senator Hope Uzodimma and Eze Madumere, claimed they were not part of the process, adding that they had gone to court to stop the primaries.

For the Imo West senatorial district, Okorocha garnered 141,127 votes to defeat Senator Hope Uzodimma, who polled 1,359 votes and Senator Osita Izunaso, 24 votes.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Okorocha of Imo state expressed optimism that his son-in-law and former chief of staff, Uche Nwosu, will become the next governor of Imo state.

Okorocha spoke at the Imo government house during the swearing ceremony of Mark Uchendu as the new secretary to the government of Imo state, 9 permanent secretaries and others by the acting solicitor Ministry of Justice, Chinyere Ibeh.
