- Antonio Costa says Cristiano Ronaldo is not guilty of alleged sexual crime
- The 33-year-old was accused of forcefully having his way with an American model
- Ronaldo's lawyers have threatened to press charges on Der Spiegel who broke the news
Portugal Prime Minister Antonio Costa has defended under fire Cristiano Ronaldo over claims he forcefully had his way with a former model Kathryn Mayorga.
Costa called the Portuguese ace extraordinary as he pointed out that the Juventus striker is yet to be found guilty of any crimes.
He said: "People need to understand one and for all that there's one thing, that is presumption of innocence. It is not enough for someone to be accused of something to be guilty of it.
"If there's something we have proof of is that he is an extraordinary professional, an extraordinary sportsman, an extraordinary footballer, and someone who has honoured and given prestige to Portugal, and certainly what we all wish for is that nothing can ever stain that record of Ronaldo."
The 34-year-old Mayorga was 25, then, claims the former Real Madrid forcefully had his way with her in a Las Vegas hotel room.
Ronaldo has labelled the allegations by Mayorga as "fake news", but was filmed "dancing intimately" with her hours before the alleged assault.
Lawyers for Juventus ace have threatened to sue Der Spiegel - who first revealed the American beauty's allegations - over the “blatantly illegal” claims.
The Juventus star also hit back at the slurs himself, telling his followers during an Instagram live video: “No, no, no, no, no. What they said today? Fake, fake news.
“They want to promote (themselves by using) my name. It’s normal. They want to be famous to say my name, but it is part of the job. I am a happy man and all good.”
But, legal papers seen by The Sun state: “Cristiano Ronaldo pulled the plaintiff into a bedroom and on to a bed and attempted to engage in sexual intercourse.”
It said Mayorga refused and tried to cover herself and was screaming: “No, no, no”.
It adds: “When Cristiano Ronaldo completed the sexual assault, he allowed her to leave the bedroom stating he was sorry, he was usually a gentleman.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted to his legal team that former model Kathryn Mayorga who accused him of forcefully having his way said 'stop' during intercourse, The Sun quoting court documents.
The papers claim Ronaldo confirmed the 34-year-old "said ‘No’ and ‘Stop’ several times” when they were in bed together.
