Violence mars Katsina constituency primaries as lawmaker call for national intervention

Delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina have alleged repeated violence at the state's constituents primaries.

Some of the delegates said thugs were used by some party members to threaten people against voting their preferred candidates at the primaries.

Sources within the Katsina party alleged that a younger brother to the commissioner of finance in the state made sure that candidates did not make use of the voting papers.

A source said: "They came to Dutsima local government and made sure nobody voted for the other aspirants. They didn't allow any of the delegate to write by himself, they said they should take their voting paper to go and give to their agents in the venue of the primaries."

The also threatened the delegates' lives, they told them that anybody who goes against their wish will have themselves to blame.

They also accused the Senator, local government chairman and Councillors from the constituency of complacency.

Speaking to on the matter, the lawmaker representing Dustima/ Kurfi constituency, Danlami Kurfi said he is not happy with the turn out of events at the primaries.

Kurfi said: "I am not happy, no observer was allowed at the units not even my agents, when I saw what was happening at the venue, I just walked out and told my agents to do same."

He called on the party's national leadership to investigate the matter and all reports emanating from the primaries at various constituents in the state.

"The APC at the nation level should come to our help in Katsina and Dustima/ Kurfi constituency, infact there was no primaries in my constituency," Kurfi added.

Meanwhile, previously reported that three aspirants for the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Daura/Maiadua/Sandamu federal constituency of the House of Representatives, on Thursday evening, October 4, rejected the party’s primary poll to elect a candidate for the 2019 House of Representatives election.

PAY ATTENTION: Install our latest app for Android, read best news on Nigeria’s #1 news app gathered that the aspirants Alhaji Daura Salisu, Alhaji Aminu Jamu and Alhaji Kabir Abdullahi, speaking at a press conference in Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari's hometown alleged that a candidate was imposed on them by the Katsina state government and “the party machinery.”

They consequently called for a direct primary election to elect the party’s House of Representatives candidate.
