A man Okwudiri Okechukwu just got himself into trouble after he bought a dog, named it Nancy to taunt his female neighbour who bears the same name.
According to P.M. EXPRESS, the incident happened at Majaoba street in Egan area of Igando, Lagos, where they reside. Nancy Chikere got married but after some years the marriage crashed, she moved out of her husband’s house to live alone with her children.
It was further reported that Okechukwu had a disagreement with Nancy over an undisclosed matter in the compound. In reaction, he bought a dog and named it Nancy to the embarrassment of his neighbour.
Okechukwu was accused of calling his dog and hurling abusive words at it in reference to his neighbour. Nancy could not bear it any longer, she confronted Okechukwu to change the dog’s name but he refused. This later led to a fight but ended up being beaten up and sustaining several injuries.
The case was reported to the Igando police division and they got Okechukwu arrested and detained at the police station. He was later charged before the Ejigbo magistrates court for the assault but pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, he did not oppose his bail but asked the court to adjourn Okechukwu’s trial. This granted Okechukwu bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum but to be remanded in prison till he meets his bail requirements.
However, Nancy confirmed that Okechukwu actually bought the dog and gave it her name in order to humiliate her. She added that while Okechukwu was remanded in prison his dog died but had no idea how or what killed the animal.
Following this unfortunate incident, Nancy had a meeting with her husband’s family, they reconciled and they are now living together.
