Opinion: APC's unwarranted alarm in Akwa Ibom state by Anthony Akpan

Editor's note: Public commentator, Anthony Akpan, writes on the alarm raised by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state, Nsima Ekere and the leadership of the party over a purported threat to life and property of their party members.

Read below:

I have noted with dismay the false alarm raised by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Nsima Ekere and the leadership of the party over a purported threat to life and property of their party members.

I am not surprised at the attempt by Ekere and the state leadership of the party to point fingers at the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel which has remained the most peaceful in the history of the state. The successes which the administration has made in peacekeeping and peace building have left the opposition party amazed, hence their resort to fabricate a spurious incident with the evil intent to dent this record and de-robe the administration of the immaculate peace it has worked hard to achieve.

ORIGIN OF THE FALSE ALARM

It would be recalled that on 23rd September, during the 31st anniversary celebration of the state, Governor Emmanuel had while addressing the people of the state urged them to make a choice; to choose between “living in a state that is peaceful, devoid of kidnappings, assassinations, where security of lives and property is assured; or returning to the fearful years when death and insecurity walked on two legs, where people were afraid to visit or pursue their legitimate businesses for fear of being kidnapped or outrightly murdered.”

Troubled by Governor Emmanuel ‘s speech, Senator Akpabio convened a meeting and directed his political ally and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Udom Ekpoudom, to device a case of reference to indict the Emmanuel administration. The APC parades a bunch of fellow who would stop at nothing to soil the achievements of the Akwa Ibom state government under the current PDP leadership. The purported attack was simply a diversionary tactics to take public attention away from the recent awful killing of at least three persons during the APC governorship primary in the state.

NSIMA EKERE’S HOUSE

Anyone who knows Nsima Ekere's house will spare his mind the trouble of thinking twice the false alarm raised by Ekere and his party men. Ekere’s house located in Ewet Housing, one of the most secured places in the state where Governor Emmanuel and Senator Akpabio residential houses are. Ekere’s house has a high imposing fence with tough electric barbed wires, high resolution close circuit cameras fitted around the building. In addition to these, about 15 police men, five (5) army officers and over eight (8) DSS personnel are always mounting securing protection and surveillance 24/7 at the house when Ekere and his family are around. One wonders how an outsider would beat such super multiple security checks to shoot into the house.

I can say without hesitation that the purported attack on the building if the story is not out-rightly false, was a job done from within.
