Anxiety as PDP is set to meet presidential aspirants ahead of party’s primaries

- The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is planning to meet its presidential aspirants on Friday, October 5

- Kola Ologbondiyan says the meeting will have the leadership of the party and all its organs

- The meeting will have on its agenda the best way to handle the forthcoming convention

The leadership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its organs will, on Friday, October 5, meet its presidential aspirants and key stakeholders to deliberate on some issues including the conduct of the convention.

It was learnt that Kola Ologbondiyan, the national publicity secretary of the party, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, October 4.

The aspirants, according to The Punch, include a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar; Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal; Governor of Gombe, Ibrahim Dankwambo; a former Governor of Kano, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso; a former Governor of Sokoto, Attahiru Bafarawa.

The other aspirants are the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; his predecessor, Senator David Mark; a former minister of special Duties and inter-governmental relations, Tanimu Turaki (SAN); a former governor of plateau state, Senator Jona Jang; and his former counterpart from Kaduna, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

A former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido and Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed are two other aspirants for the ticket of the party that are expected at the meeting.

The report said discussions at the meeting will include the mode of the convention and the delegates’ list. earlier reported that the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, and governors elected on the platform of the party met with those that had indicated interest to run for the presidency in the party in Abuja on Tuesday, September 11.

The meeting was held at the private residence of the governor of Ekiti state, who is also the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Ayodele Fayose.
