Following the cancellation of the governorship primary in Zamfara state by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) , the governor of the state, Abdulaziz Yari, has faulted the decision.
Yari also accused Professor Abubakar Faki, chairman of the primary committee of bias, alleging that he was sponsored by the opposition to influence the outcome of the elections, Channels TV reports.
The governor who disclosed this in Gusau, the state capital on Thursday, October 4, insisted that the election was credible.
Recall that the National Working Committee (NWC) cancelled the Zamfara governorship primary. Yekini Nabena, APC spokesman said the primary was cancelled because of election malpractices, including snatching of election materials and result sheets by the state government officials.
“The Prof. Abubakar Faki-led All APC Zamfara governorship primaries committee has announced the cancellation of the primaries held in the state
“This is due to election malpractices, including snatching of election materials and result sheets by the state’s government officials which were taken to the Government House, Gusau,” Nabena said.
Nabena added that the primary election in Zamfara was also marred by violence, saying that a new date would be fixed soonest for a fresh primary.
He reiterated the party’s NWC commitment to free, fair and transparent primaries across the country ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Yari made the assertion on Friday, September 28, while addressing the All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters at Abubakar Tunau Model Primary School polling unit in Talata-Mafara town, Talata-Mafara local government area of the state.
