Honourable Wahab Alawiye-King, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and one of those playing major roles in the gubernatorial ambition of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the party’s primary election as one that should be a lesson to politicians.

While commending Akinwunmi Ambode for conceding defeat, Alawiye-King said it would have been more honourable if the governor handled the electioneering with more political maturity before the exercise was conducted.

Ambode conceded defeat on Wednesday, October 3, after the party’s strongly contested primary election that saw Sanwo-Olu declared victorious.

Alawiye-King, a former member of the state House of Assembly, told that Ambode’s decision to congratulate Sanwo-Olu showed that the governor understands that the battle was in the interest of Lagos and its progress.

He also thanked the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) for endorsing Sanwo-Olu.

Alawiye-King, who congratulated Sanwo-Olu over his victory, also commended members of the party for coming out to exercise their voting rights and showing that Lagos APC can lead the pack when it comes to true democracy.

“The governor shamed naysayers, our enemies, who thought this was the end of the APC in Lagos state. Some were already asking Ambode to defect without understanding the implications.

“The governor understands that even if the primary election was conducted 1000 times, Sanwo-Olu would still win. Thus, the best thing to do would be to congratulate candidate Sanwo-Olu.

“Like most other experiences, the primary election is a lesson from which politicians must learn,” he said.

The politician allayed fears that Sanwo-Olu may not be a successful governor. He argued that the party’s candidate is one of the brains behind the successes recorded in Lagos so far.

“Lagos has a blue-print which every administration must follow. Sanwo-Olu has been one of those working at the background to ensure the Lagos of everybody’s dream is achieved.

“Now that he would become the governor, he already knows what to do since he has been a part of the journey.
