- Curtley Christians wanted to connect with her heritage at her matric ball
- She chose a beautiful cultural outfit and it has dazzled social media
- Designer Manilla Von T. created the dress
A beautiful 18-year-old girl has dazzled South Africans on social media with her stunning matric ball dress.
Curtley Christians, from Melkbosstrand in the Western Cape, wore a cultural outfit to connect with her heritage during her matric dance last week, Daily Voice reports.
Her African-themed dress was made from leather and beads, Legit.ng gathered. It featured an eye-catching shield pattern on the front.
Her matric ball partner was her schoolmate, Brendan Lesch. Photos of Curtley went viral on Facebook, where the popular page Coloured Girls Rock shared it.
Curtley's mom is coloured and dad is African. She felt honoured by how warmly people praised her dress and added:
My aim was to show others to embrace their heritage and that it’s not uncool to show who you are and where you come from.
Local designer Veon Wentzel, popularly known as Manilla von T, created the dress based on a design Curtley showed her.
A spot check of Curtley's Facebook page reveals just how much she is in touch with her heritage. A recent profile picture shows her dressed in a similar flower-printed dress.
