- Reverend Chris Okotie has declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2019
- The cleric is seeking for other political parties to adopt him as a consensus candidate
- Okotie said it is time to embrace a new nationalistic philosophy that can salvage the country
Nigerian televangelist and founder of the Household of God Church International Ministries, Reverend Chris Okotie, has joined the 2019 presidential race.
The cleric announced his intention to enter the presidential race on Monday, October 1, during a service to commemorate the nation’s Independence Day, Channels TV reports.
Legit.ng gathers that Okotie stated that he would be running on the platform of the Fresh Democratic Party.
However, he also used the opportunity to reach out to other political parties to adopt him as a consensus candidate.
He said: “I want to re-affirm my call for an interim government and to ask those that are concerned, who are the political actors, to consider me as a consensus candidate.
“I have referred to myself as a consensus remedial facilitator because of the existential threats that we have now; and I think that it’s time for us to lay aside the habiliments of our political affiliations and to embrace a new nationalistic philosophy that can salvage this country at this time."
Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that Reverend Chris Okotie called on Nigeria’s two major political parties - All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) - to adopt him as their presidential candidate.
Okotie, speaking at a press conference in his church on Sunday, July 15, called on citizens to act fast to defend the Nigerian dream, as he stated that things have gone to a worse state.
