The general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has reacted to the recent report that Nigeria is the poorest country in the world.
Pastor Adeboye, who reacted to the report in Lagos at a special prayer and thanksgiving service for men, stated that the report is the hypocrisy of the West against Africans.
The thanksgiving service was organised by the RCCG national headquarters, Throne of Grace Parish, and the programme was tagged "Dominion over the mighty", Punch reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the cleric said the report should, however, propel Nigerian leaders to do more in the fight against corruption and poverty.
Pastor Adeboye, who spoke through his assistant general overseer, personnel and administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, said western countries also had the “poorest of the poor” among them but oftentimes were under-reported.
He said: “You will move round some so-called developed countries and one will be shocked by the level of poverty that the people are experiencing.”
The cleric asked: “Who is doing the categorisation of developed countries and some undeveloped countries It is the opinion of the few people whose facts can be contested.
“When they talk, they talk about the things that favour them and they want us to continue in the trajectory that our system is failing so that they will continue to benefit from our failures.”
Notwithstanding the report, the cleric called on government at all levels to use it as an opportunity to intensify their fight against poverty and inequality bedevilling the country
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, called for a practical approach towards tackling all forms of insecurity in Nigeria.
Adeboye made the call during a special thanksgiving service for all mothers, intending mothers, widows and their families at the Redemption Way, Ebute Metta, Throne of Grace national headquarters in Lagos on Sunday, July 1.
The cleric, who was represented by the assistant general overseer on personnel and administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, condemned the recent killings by unknown gunmen in Plateau state. He, however, stated that hope was not lost as God had not left the nation.
