- There is heightened tension in the Lagos state chapter of the APC ahead of the primary
- An APC chieftain has said there are no plans to endorse Governor Ambode by the party's national leader Tinubu
- The aide said the claim of an endorsement is a total fallacy and it’s not going to happen
The feud between Senator Bola Tinubu and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is still on contrary to speculations that the former Lagos state governor has endorsed the incumbent ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election on Saturday, September 29.
An APC chieftain close to the party's national leader says there are no plans to endorse the governor by Tinubu, saying the decision of the former governor not to back Ambode for a second term is intact.
The party official accused aides of Governor Ambode of planting fake stories in the media about Tinubu anointing the governor ahead of the primary election.
“Ambode’s camp is desperately trying to mislead Lagosians with these stories,” the unnamed chieftain told Pulse Nigeria.
He added that: “The Ambode camp just rose from a meeting and agreed to publish a news story that Asiwaju is set to endorse and anoint Ambode in the early hours of Saturday morning before the primaries. There has been no meeting between Asiwaju and Ambode. This story is concocted and a lie from the pit of hell.
“The aim of this is to misinform the electorate in Lagos and to cause confusion. A number of similar false publications are already in the works.”
Another aide of Tinubu's who was contacted for this story said: “The claim of an endorsement is a total fallacy. It’s not going to happen. The governor has challenged the people of Lagos to a fight. Let him face it.”
Ambode’s political future has been under threat since Tinubu’s Mandate Movement, threw up the managing director of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to challenge the governor at the party’s primary.
Also in the race, is another strong contender, a former commissioner for works and Infrastructure, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who has the backing of an equally powerful group, the Justice Forum.
The chairmen of the 57 local council development areas in Lagos had also declared support for Sanwo-Olu.

A last-minute effort by the First Lady of Lagos state, Bolanle Ambode, to save her husband’s job also failed.
Mrs Ambode was said to have waylaid Tinubu in Oshogbo during an APC rally, and tried to pacify him to change his mind on his hard stance against her husband.
A source privy to the meeting said her efforts did not yield any result as Tinubu “received her cordially and joked with her.”
