The major headlines in mainstream newspapers today, Friday, September 28, are focused on the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Osun state governorship re-run election.
Punch reports that Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared as the governor-elect of Osun state, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Osun state governorship re-run election was held in seven polling units across four council areas on Thursday, September 27.
The returning officer, Prof Joseph Fuwape, declared that the APC candidate, Oyetola, won the governorship election by scoring a total number of 255,505 votes while Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 255,023 votes.

Adeleke had gone into the re-run with a 353 vote lead from the Saturday, September 22 election where he got 254,698 votes while Oyetola scored 254,345 votes.
However, while Oyetola got 1,160 votes in Thursday’s re-run exercise, Adeleke scored 325 votes.
Still on the Osun gubernatorial re-run election, This Day is reporting that the PDP was subdued by the APC; as the ruling party’s candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The returning officer, Prof Joseph Fuwape, said Oyetola prevailed over PDP’s Senator Ademola Adeleke.
It was a clean sweep for Oyetola who had previously trailed behind Adeleke by 254,345 votes to 254,698, leaving a margin of 353 votes, at the conclusion of the Saturday, September 22 election.
At the re-run exercise however, the negative margin was canceled by the APC which bested the opposition party by a margin of 472 votes.
To round things off, The Guardian is also focusing on the Osun gubernatorial re-run election between Gboyega Oyetola of the APC and Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP.
The publication, however, reports that the result of the exercise was rejected by the PDP, which called for its cancellation and the declaration of its candidate, Ademola Adeleke, as winner.
