APC primary: Ambode to train 1,960 residents as wards agents

- In his preparation for the APC primary, Governor Ambode is set to train loyalists as agents

- The agents will be trained to serve as the governor's representatives at ward level

- Ambode will face other leading contenders like Sanwo-olu and Hamzat on Saturday, September 29

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s direct primary election, Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos state has been taking giant strides of readiness.

The Punch reports that the embattled governor, together with his campaign team, has approved the training of not less than 1,960 residents of the state to hold the position of agents in the all the 245 wards of the 20 local government areas where the primary election process will hold on Saturday, September, 29.

Legit.ng notes that the training was part of the master plan inaugurated by the Ambode Campaign Organisation (ACO) to ensure that credibility and rules of fair play are duly followed.

The media and strategy director of the group has expressed during a media briefing on Thursday, September 27, that those selected will be trained to serve as representatives of the governor in the process.

He said they will function as "the eyes and ears of Governor Ambode as the candidate of choice in the primary election.”

His words:"While being vigilant and uncompromising, the agents have been tutored to conduct themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner as loyal members of the All Progressives Congress who want the best for the party and for democracy by ensuring that the best candidate emerges on a level playing ground."

Recall that the governor has said that irrespective of the challenges faced by his second term bid, He was still ready to throw his hat in the ring again, adding that he was ready to toe the battle field of primary election in line with the preference of the party.

Ambode in his declaration on Wednesday, September 26, said his second term ambition is to consolidate on the good work he has been doing for the people of the state over the last three years.

In the midst of his jubilant loyalists, Governor Ambode promised to bring good governance to the people of the state, adding that his candidacy has been endorsed by various groups across the state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s support group had been making a move to lobby for the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and 57 council chairmen's nods ahead of the state governorship primary of the APC.

The move by Ambode’s loyalists had cancelled the speculation making the rounds that Ambode was planning to withdraw from the race due to unfavourable indices against him

It was also gathered that some members of the GAC were still making last minute efforts to reach out to other members in order to have a rethink before the governorship primary.
