APC governors to serve as returning officers for party presidential primaries

- State governors have been appointed by the APC to serve as returning officers for the presidential direct primaries

- The primaries will be holding across all the states in the country and Abuja on Friday, September 28

- President Muhammadu Buhari is the party’s sole aspirant and the primaries holding across the states is just to pass affirmative vote

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) has appointed respective state governors to serve as returning officers for the presidential direct primaries.

NAN reports that the primaries will be holding across the states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Friday, September 28.

Legit.ng gathers that Yekini Nabena, the party’s acting national publicity secretary made this known in a statement on Thursday night in Abuja.

He, however, said that in states where the party has no governors, senators and ministers in such states would serve as returning officers for the exercise. He added that national and state House of Assembly members were to coordinate their various constituencies during the exercise.

The APC presidential primaries is to pass affirmative vote on President Muhammadu Buhari who is the party’s sole aspirant for the 2019 presidential election.

The party is expected to hold a presidential convention on October 6 to ratify the president as its candidate ahead of the 2019 presidential election.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), inaugurated a high-level legislative screening and appeals committee for the party’s 386 Senate, and 1,587 House of Representatives aspirants.

Oserheimen Osunbor, former Edo governor, Timipre Sylva, Ahmad Sani Yerima, Ken Nnamani, Sharon Ikeazor, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, and Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, are among heads of the committees which were inaugurated on Thursday, September 20, in Abuja.

No fewer than 15 APC state governors seeking re-election in 2019 were drilled by the APC Screening committee ahead of its party primaries.
