Bandits reportedly kidnap 2 customs officers in Zamfara

- Suspected armed bandits have reportedly invaded Nigeria Customs Service checkpoint at Farun Jaja village in Zamfara state kidnapping two officers

- A witness, identified as Rabiu, said the gunmen went through a sorghum plantation with the officers

- The customs authorities in the state are yet to release a statement on the development

Suspected armed bandits Saturday, September 22, reportedly kidnapped two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service at a checkpoint at Farun Jaja village along the Zamfara- Katsina boarder in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state.

Daily Trust reports an witness, simply identified as Rabiu, that four armed men arrived at the checkpoint, fired gunshots in the air and asked everyone to lie down.

Rabiu said: “They thereafter seized our telephones and asked the two officers including one Abdullahi to go with them.

“They then asked for one officer called Sarkin Mallamai and the officer -in-charge and we all told them that they were at the nearby Gurbin Baure town.

“They then began to fire shots into a primary school nearby where some other people were sleeping inside.

“Luckily for the people in the classes no body stood up as such no one was killed. We later discovered at least 46 bullets around the place. The gunmen later went northwards and disappeared in to a sorghum plantation with the officers.”

It was learnt that the customs authorities in the state could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.

The spokesman for the operation Sharan Daji in the state, Major C K Abiade, was said to have noted that they got the information of the incident, but were yet to confirm it.

Meanwhile, had reported Bungudu local government APC chairman, Alhaji Hamisu, escaped being kidnapped after gunmen stormed Nahuche village and abducted seven people including a former councilor, Bello Daniya.

The Zamfara police command said armed bandits abducted seven people from Nahuche village of Bungudu local government.

An eye witness, Malam Sani Ibrahim, said the bandits besieged the village in large numbers, fired guns into the air and ordered the villagers to show them the house of Bungudu local government chairman who is a member of the APC.
