A presidential aspirant under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general elections, Attahiru Bafarawa, has stressed the dire need to revamp the ailing economy of the nation.
Legit.ng regional reporter in Akure, Oluwadamilare Moriyeke, reports that Bafarawa said this on Monday, September 17, in Akure during a visit to the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, pledging that Nigeria economic policies would be diversified in such a way that alternative sources of driving the economy would be explored.
He said the Nigerian economy has been battered and damaged by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in its three and half stay in governance, adding that only the PDP can correct the mistakes made by the APC.
He said: "When we come in power we are going to take our time to do the damage control, all our ideas is to correct where mistake had been done, we are not going to winch out anybody.
"We shall de-emphasize over dependence on oil and look towards, agriculture, tourism, mining and manufacturing as potential drivers of our economy."
Bafarawa promised to implement the 2014 national conference report, emphasizing that "when we are talking on restructuring we are talking about development.
"We are going to liaise with the National Assembly and the judiciary to extrapolate outcomes of past national conference and discourse, with a view to restructuring our nation to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the citizenry.
"We shall strengthen the principles of separation of power and ensure strict adherence to the rule of law."
He also promised to create enabling environment for efficient and sustainable security within the shortest time if voted into power.
Bafarawa, however, urged Nigerians to join in his vision towards rescuing Nigeria and placing her on a robust path of development.
