- Senator Godswill Akpabio says majority of PDP members in Akwa Ibom state joined him when he defected to the APC
- He says President Buhari will win the state in the 2019 general elections with landslide
- A said presidential aspirant of the Labour Party, Placid Emmanuel, says God made Buhari president to reveal those sponsoring the Boko Haram group
A former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio, has disclosed that his heart has been with Muhammadu Buhari since 2015 election, despite the fact he was a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) then.
Akpabio also alleged that the PDP-led federal government never constructed any road in Akwa Ibom state for the 16 years that the party governed Nigeria.
Akpabio made the statement on Monday, September 17, when speaking with journalists after he led an Akwa Ibom delegation to the presidential villa to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, Leadership reports.
The serving senator described his former party, the PDP, as a mere carcass, stating that majority of the party members joined him when he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He also predicted that President Buhari will win Akwa Ibom state in the 2019 general elections with a landslide victory.
“I believe strongly that the fact speaks for itself. For the calibre of personages you saw today, the strength of the delegation and the character of the delegation, the capacities and the personalities that you have witnessed is very clear that President Muhammadu Buhari will win Akwa Ibom State come 2019 general elections with landslide," Akpabio said.
“I can predict that the first state in Nigeria to fall to the APC in 2019 presidential election is Akwa Ibom State, no one can controvert this l still speak with authority because I have my people’s backing to pronounce what I have just pronounced, victory is for APC and victory is for Mr. President come 2019 in Akwa Ibom State.”
He however clarified that though he had always believed in Buhari, he never engaged in anti party activities.

“In 2015 we had a son of the Niger Delta, former President Goodluck Jonathan contesting the election and I was also a chieftain of the PDP. I was also the chairman of PDP Governors Forum so in spite of the fact that I believe strongly that the current President needed to be supported there was no way I could play anti-party activity in 2015 so I voted for PDP," he said.
Meanwhile, a said presidential aspirant of the Labour Party, Placid Emmanuel, has attributed Muhammadu Buhari’s emergence as president of Nigeria to an act of God.
The Tribune reports that Emmanuel told a news conference in Awka, the Anambra state capital, that God allowed Buhari to become the president of the country as an answer to several years of prayer by Nigerians and to reveal those sponsoring the Boko Haram group.
The presidential aspirant said he was not in the presidential race to match forces with the incumbent president, but simply to contest the poll.
