Mourinho ready to hand Shaw, 3 other Manchester United stars new contracts

- Jose Mourinho is planning to extend the contracts of Luke Shaw following his superb start to the season

- He also wants to give Young, Mata, and Ander Herrera new deals that will keep them at Old Trafford beyond next summer

- His side handed Watford their first defeat in the 2018-19 season

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly planning to hand Luke Shaw new long term contract to keep him at Old Trafford.

The England international has been impressive for the Red Devils since the start of the 2018-19 Premier League season.

However, his current deal will expire at the end of this season and his Portuguese tactician is impressed with his performances and is willing to give him a contract extension.

He joined United from Southampton in 2014 in a five year deal valued at £33.75 million.

The defender missed his side's 2-1 win over Watford at Vicarage Road due to the concussion he suffered against Spain at Wembley earlier this month.

Meawhile, he might return to United's starting line up in their Champions League opener against Young Boys on Wednesday, September 19.

Mourinho told Sky Sports: “I hope they will stay.

Luke Shaw's evolution makes us believe that he is going in the right direction, I want to keep him.

We had a similar conversation last season about Marouane Fellaini and I was always saying, I hope he stays, I believe he will stay, and I say the same thing, I hope they stay.

Mourinho also wants his club to renew the contracts of Ashley Young, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera after showering encomiums on them for impressive performances.

He added: “Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, even if they are not playing a lot or if they are not starting matches, by the character point of view and by what they represent in the modern society in football they are almost unique pieces that I also don't want to lose.

United have rallied with back-to-back wins at Burnley and Watford but after their trip to Switzerland, they face Wolves at home on Saturday in the Premier League.

Legit.ng previously reported that two first half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling was all that Manchester United needed to claim their third win of the season.

This victory means they have won their last two EPL fixtures and their third victory of the ongoing season.
