Officers at the National Defence College, Abuja, have been trained by experts from the College of International Security Affairs, National Defence University, Washington, USA, on the need to “develop a strategic mechanism” to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency.
The five-day training focused on combating terrorism and irregular threats in the country and was conducted for the NDC’s faculty members, Punch reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the NDC’s spokesperson, Commander Edward Yeibo, said the training was about achieving a strategic framework on the Boko Haram insurgency as well as knowledge sharing between the faculty members on irregular threats in the contemporary security environment.

While meeting the NDC commandant, Rear Admiral Adeniyi Osinowo, the leader of the US experts, Ambassador Erica Ruggles, stated: “Our mission is to educate and prepare senior civilian and military security professionals and partners for the strategic challenges of the contemporary security environment."
One of the experts, Dr Thomas Marks, stated: “Protecting citizens in all spectrums in a democratic dispensation is the fundamental responsibility of governance.
“There is the need to understand the root causes and drivers of radicalisation which leads to violent extremism at the strategic level. This will help to develop a framework for a strategic response.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigerian Army on Saturday, September 8, repelled a deadly attack on its troops by Boko Haram at Gudunbale in Guzamala local government area of Borno.
Scores of insurgents in gun trucks and various calibre of arms stormed the town and engaged in a fierce battle that lasted for many hours with the troops.
