- Members of Goodluck Jonathan’s constituency have petitioned the PDP delegates appeal panel over alleged name substitution, exclusion in the delegates’ election
- They narrated how card-carrying members had conducted the delegates’ election after waiting endlessly for election officials, for two days straight
- The constituents urged the leadership of the party to do the needful to avoid losses and unpalatable consequences
Aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s Ogbia local government area, Bayelsa state constituency, have taken their complaint on alleged name substitution, exclusion, hijack and breach of democratic electoral process to the party’s delegates appeal panel.
The aggrieved members, under the auspices of the Ogbia LGA Concerned Members Forum, made the complaint in a letter sent to the three-man appeal panel, chaired by Udo Ibeji, Punch reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the members, who bought nomination forms for the PDP ad hoc delegates congress/election for the 13 wards in Ogbia, pointed out that the party, in its guidelines, had fixed September 8 for the conduct of its congress to elect three ad hoc ward delegates.
The forum said that card-carrying members of the PDP in the LGA gathered at the ward headquarters of the party on that date, and waited endlessly for the arrival of electoral officials.
They disclosed that the party faithful repeated the same thing on September 9 but that yet again, the officials did not show up. Hence, they said the card-carrying members conducted the delegates’ election that produced 39 delegates cutting across the 13 wards in the area, in accordance with the party constitution.
The forum insisted that members followed party’s electoral guidelines, and that the September 9 delegates’ election was authentic.
They said: “At a time that we should be righting wrongs, some are bent on doing otherwise. Bayelsa state and Ogbia LGA particularly is the constituency of the immediate past president of the country, Goodluck Jonathan, and all eyes are on all of us.
“We are confident in the ability of the leadership of the party to do the needful to avoid losses and unpalatable consequences. Governor Seriake Dickson is an advocate of justice.
“We of the forum are determined in our commitment and loyalty to the party in standing to defend the ideals and ideologies of the party as set out by the founding fathers who worked tirelessly to give us this party.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a clash between supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Brass local government area of Bayelsa state, led to the deaths of three persons.
Though, both sides had given conflicting reasons for the attacks, one of those killed was identified as the spokesman of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC).
