105-year-old wartime nurse says secret to longevity is to stay single

- A 105-year-old woman identified as Brenda Osborne who lived through both World Wars, has revealed her secret to longevity

- The retired war nurse revealed that staying single is what has kept her alive for so long

- According to her, 'men are not worth the hassle'

Peace and happiness is indeed relative. While some people find it in true love and raising families, others find it in building a career. For this 105-year-old woman however, staying single has been doing it for her for a long time.

Identified as Brenda Osborne, the centenarian who was born in in 1913 in Nottingham, UK, shared some of her tips with carers at her retirement home during her 105th birthday party. According to Brenda, steering clear of men, working hard and getting out in the fresh air is what has kept her alive for so long.

The 105-year-old woman is said to have lived in her childhood home for 93 years before moving into the nursing home last year, a while after her 104th birthday. She shared a two bedroom property with her two sisters, Vera and Beryl and nephew Ian before they passed away.

Speaking during her birthday celebration, she had this to say: "I would put my good health down to hard work and avoiding men. I loved celebrating my birthday although I was disappointed the Queen didn't come. I received my letter from her but I thought an appearance was the least she could do."

She first started work at Victoria Hospital in 1940, nursing Dunkirk veterans. She became an assistant nurse in 1946 and then a senior nurse 1953. The hardworking centenarian received an award after she only took one day off sick in 33 years during her time as a nurse
